Cheers and welcome to our 4th Annual Advent Calendar! Throughout the next month, we will be going on a high-end bourbon journey together and reviewing 25 bourbons from award winning distilleries across America. Starting on December 1st and ending on December 25th - we will get to experience everything from small batches to single barrels that are jam packed with flavor. Please join us in toasting to another incredible year and getting to virtually share some of our favorite bottles from this past year with you!
**This review has been completed by using a Glencairn glass and neat if you want to compare the same tasting notes as DB’s Bourbon Trail. BUT - the best thing about it being YOUR bourbon is that you get to enjoy it that way YOU want to and prefer! As long as it brings us together and you are enjoying it - pour it over ice, add water, or add it to a cocktail! It’s all about what makes you happy and what you enjoy - don’t let others influence you differently!**
Enough of me rambling, let’s dive into what brought us here!

Message on the bottle:
Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea Voyage 29 Wheated Ship's Log
"At the stroke of midnight, the ship carting Jefferson’s OCEAN Aged at Sea° Voyage 29 Wheated used its side-thrusters to move away from the dock and out into the channel that would take it to the Atlantic. The bright lights that illuminated the busy Port of Savannah slowly faded in the distance, revealing a beautiful moonlit sky over a tranquil sea.
A tropical storm southeast of Bermuda stirred up moderate seas that gently agitated the cargo but Voyage 29 avoided sailing directly into the storm en route to Manzanillo and the transit of the Panama Canal.
While there was no tropical depressions or cyclone activity in the eastern Pacific, strong, warm winds provided crystal clear days and nights but generated rough seas that persisted through the western Pacific.
Rounding Australia and traveling into the Indian Ocean, Voyage 29 continued its journey storm-free as the entire region was experiencing well below normal cyclone activity. The high wind and rough seas moderated below the equator as the ship traveled north to Singapore. Long passages of open ocean then gave way to frequent stops in China, Korea and Japan. While a busy time for the ship, the barrels of wheated bourbon aboard, quietly rested in the relatively calm coastal waters before heading out into the north Pacific and crossing to the west coast of America. Air temperatures dropped to the mid 50’s above and below the Port of Long Beach but that was as cold as it got through the entire trip. All in all, it was the perfect voyage for wheated bourbon. Air temperatures and sea conditions provided more contact with the wood and a spike in aging which tends to be slower than with rye whiskeys.
Enjoy the aromas of fresh baked bread, complex notes of vanilla and caramel, delicate hints of citrus and spice and the long, well rounded yet gentle finish of OCEAN Voyage 29 Wheated."

Review:
This is the first time I have ever highlighted a bottle of Jefferson's Ocean but I thinks it's such a cool concept. If this is your first time diving in, here's a little back story of how it came about from their website.
Jefferson’s Ocean: Aged at Sea – A boat is a singularly uncommon place to age bourbon, but inspiration struck Trey on the deck of his friend Chris Fischer’s research ship. While watching Jefferson’s Reserve bourbon rock gently in its bottle, they wondered what would happen to bourbon aged on the bow of a ship. The caramelizing of the sugars in the barrel combined with the constant motion of the ship resulted in a dark bourbon with a briny, savory taste aged beyond its years. Now, the next round has headed out to open sea and this time, the barrels, aged up to 8 years, will be going all the way around the world.
Honestly never would have thought of doing something like this, so kudos to Jefferson's for pulling off such a cool experience! Let's dive in and "join the expedition"!
Nose:
Welcome to the most pleasant nose of the calendar to date. It's a very nice and light combination of Butterscotch, Vanilla, Fresh and
Palate:
The palate just continues to follow suit. I wouldn't say it's the most complex palate of the calendar but probably the most inviting and well rounded if you prefer a sweeter palate. It's has bold notes of Caramel, Vanilla, and Baking Spices to round it out.
Finish:
The finish of this pour is dangerously smooth neat. It's light and inviting, making you want to continually come back for more. It's filled with Butterscotch and Light Baking Spice notes.
Final Thoughts:
This bottle rounds out our last store pick of the calendar! The cool thing about this pick to me, is that I got it from Habersham Beverage Warehouse in Savannah, GA and that is where it started it's journey on the ship! Out side of a good pour, I am a sucker for a great story.
This isn't the pour that you're going to sip and it's going to linger for minutes later. This is a pour that's so good that, it's inviting you back in and wondering why you stopped drinking it in the first place. When I am drinking bourbon, I do tend to lean on a sweeter palate preference and this checks all the boxes for me for a crushable pour.
It's light, it's refreshing, it has a story like no other, and it's damn good - what else could you ask for?!
Cheers y’all!
