Day 8 of DB's Bourbon Trail 2023 Advent Calendar - Yellowstone Single Barrel Select

Updated: Dec 8, 2023

Cheers and welcome to our 4th Annual Advent Calendar! Throughout the next month, we will be going on a high-end bourbon journey together and reviewing 25 bourbons from award winning distilleries across America. Starting on December 1st and ending on December 25th - we will get to experience everything from small batches to single barrels that are jam packed with flavor. Please join us in toasting to another incredible year and getting to virtually share some of our favorite bottles from this past year with you!

**This review has been completed by using a Glencairn glass and neat if you want to compare the same tasting notes as DB’s Bourbon Trail. BUT - the best thing about it being YOUR bourbon is that you get to enjoy it that way YOU want to and prefer! As long as it brings us together and you are enjoying it - pour it over ice, add water, or add it to a cocktail! It’s all about what makes you happy and what you enjoy - don’t let others influence you differently!**

Enough of me rambling, let’s dive into what brought us here!

Day 8 of DB’s Bourbon Trail 2023 Advent Calendar

Yellowstone Hand Picked Collection - Single Barrel Select Palmetto Bourbon Club

Proof:

  •  115 Proof (57.5%)

Distillery:

  •  Limestone Branch Distillery (Lebanon, KY)

Message on the bottle:

"In 2010, my family and I founded Limestone Branch Distillery with the intention of crafting only the finest whiskey and the dream of restoring the Yellowstone brand to its former glory. In the spring of 2015, over a century after our great-grandfather. M.C. Beam, sold his distillery to Yellowstone, that dream came true. The Hand Picked Collection is a series of single barrels, each hand-picked and sampled at the distillery. With each barrel comes its own complexities and one-of-a-kind flavors - every one different than the next. From our hearts to fill your glass, Enjoy!

Price Point:

**At DB’s Bourbon Trail we utilize an app called BoozApp (not sponsored - we wish!) to ensure we are getting at least a fair price on our bourbon before purchasing. Nothing is worse than getting taken advantage of by a flipper playing the supply/demand game**

    • $59.99

  • Fair Price:

    • $86.72

  • Shelf Price:

    • $89.99

Review:

Before reading the bottle, I had no idea the founders were from the Beam family line. After a little research, the history runs deep with this bottle and I definitely suggest if you are interested in learning a little more - review their website.

Our family was there at the start of the Kentucky bourbon business. It all began when a man named Jacob Beam sold his first barrels of corn whiskey.
Seven generations later, brothers Stephen and Paul Beam started their own chapter of the family history book as the proud Kentucky bourbon distillers behind Limestone Branch Distillery. You can taste that pride in every pour of our award-winning craft spirits.

Limestone Branch Distillery opened in 2011 but their bourbon drinks like they have been around forever. I am incredibly impressed with how this pour turned and am excited to dive in with you all!

Nose:

  • The nose of this has a perfect bourbon profile with a little uniqueness to it. Filled with a pleasant aroma of caramel, vanilla and oak. After swirling and really diving in there are notes of hazelnut!

Palate:

  • The palate really delivers on the unique notes of hazelnut I was picking up from the nose. Notes of Hazelnut and Baking Spice is what hits upfront right away. As the palate expands, the sweetness rolls in with a buttery caramel and brown sugar goodness. This was very pleasant and really drinkable.

Finish:

  •   The finish is a perfect storm of the nose and palatae combined. It has a buttery mouthfeel with a perfect amount of spice. The notes that round a mid-to-long finish is caramel and baking spice!

Final Thoughts:

Yellowstone Hand Picked Collections are slowly becoming my favorite single barrel select picks. I have not had a bad pour from them and will always buy one if it's on the shelf! It's a bottle that lives up to the iconic name filled with a very pleasant and unique twist.

Cheers y’all!
